There are four ways to help with Newman Center mass:
Acolytes directly assist the priest. They prepare the altar, distribute the Eucharist, and delegate liturgical tasks to altar servers. Acolytes must go through training and be installed by the bishop. Contact the head sacristan if you are interested in being trained and installed as an acolyte.
Altar servers assist the priest and acolytes during the mass and other liturgical functions. No formal training is required, but if you have never served, talk to a sacristan first.
Lectors ( readers ) assist at the mass by reading the mass readings, psalms, prayer intentions, and announcements. Lectors do not need to be formally trained.
The Newman Center only has collection on Sundays. There is no training required!
You can volunteer to serve, lector, or collect by going to the sacristy ( door to the left of the altar ) and talking to the sacristan before mass.
